It’s been a mental week, and I haven’t even really had to time to read the posts, let alone comment. I shall remedy that this weekend (at the very least the reading part!).
As per the above, it’s been a very busy week at work, and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to get any better any time soon – it’s just that time of year. It doesn’t help that I am having the next two Fridays off, followed by a week and a bit of holiday, so I think at the back of my mind I feel like I need to have everything finished as far as humanly possible, so that it’s not too much extra work for the other admins while I am away.
The man is off to Melbourne for a chunk of next week, leaving at lunchtime on Sunday, and I am having lunch with some girlfriends on Saturday, so the rest of our weekend together will be very domestic, with some housework, groceries and him packing. Sunday afternoon I might spend the afternoon doing some home spa treatments – a mask, paint my nails, curl my hair – all the things that you really don’t want an audience for. Maybe a chick flick or two on the tv, and probably some wine!
It was our one year anniversary on Monday, and on Sunday we will have been in Cairns for exactly 1 year. We celebrated with dinner at a Brazilian BBQ restaurant (where we each ate more meat than is probably recommended by any diet anywhere), and I got a lovely pair of new earrings. Last night we went shopping and I bought a lovely new red dress for the first of our three August weddings. The bride saw the photo on Facebook and seemed to approve, so it’s a keeper.
Have a fantastic weekend Splatmates.
Happy anniversary!
Do they wax the meat?
Saturday I get my birthday present: The Fellowship of the Rings accompanied by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. We’re going to a Turkish restaurant for dinner beforehand.
Last night I briefly found myself cheering for the Australian Women’s Hockey team until I remembered that they were currently playing the United States.
Today is more cleanup around Pokeybun’s nature reserve, but I’ll leave that until after 10AM when I won’t irk someone for running garden tools too early.
Right now, I’m gonna see if my pistol qualification match is on the television. I am (2)(1)(0) in medal standings and get 1 result tonight, another tomorrow night, 2 more on Monday, and then I have to wait until Thursday for my next competitions with my final event being next Sunday.
Turkish restaurant? Queensland Symphony Orchestra…if that Turkish restaurant is Ahmets at southbank, just allow extra time before the show. I’ve been there and it took what felt like forever to get served.
No, we’re going to Mado. They’re much quicker
.
I think you’ve been naturalised.
Just had a look at your link. Didn’t know it was happening, but it looks like it will be a fabulous night! Enjoy. And please report on Monday just how awesome it was…!
Maybe the QSO should tour with this gig, I’d definitely go if it was in Melbourne. If I’d known earlier it was on, I may have even organised a Brissie weekend, seeing as Dad’s birthday this Sunday would have provided the perfect excuse!
Well done Pokeybun, that is an awesome gift!
Hey Splatters,
Feeling good and healthy over here. I started my training for the bridge to brisbane 10km fun run last night with a solid 8km run. (Probably leaving it a tad late with only 1 month to go, but hopefully relying on base level fitness). I’ve also cut back on that evil coffee drink I love so much. If only I was getting to bed earlier…damn olympics… “just one more C2 slalom event then bed’. Or the other night I stayed up late watching the horseies…I don’t even like equestrian.
Weekend plans include enjoying the marvelous Brisbane winter weather. Targeting a farmers market on Saturday morning, maybe a meal out somewhere and possibly a movie. I may even invite my gf.
Drew
A large chunk of my day today will be spent at Mum’s – it’s her RDO so we’re going to hang out and have lunch. Tonight we’re catching up with an old workmate of mine and his family – we’re off to Wagamama at the Emporium and I’m super excited about both the food and the company.
Tomorrow Rave and her man are coming over. Rave and I are baking in the afternoon, then they’re staying for dinner. Other than that, I don’t thinker have any plans, and I’m looking forward to keeping it that way if I can!
Mr Coaster’s tax refund came through. Holy bajeezus. It’s a good one. Our accountant is one of our favourite people right now
This now means that DJ and I can go to Sydney in November, YAY! So watch out, Sydney Splatters, I shall be terrorising you all for 4 whole days
Happy Friday everyone!
Must resist temptation to kidnap you…
That was a sympathy dislike Loller … x
Well, my Friday is off to a really crap start.
Was walking up the ramp of my train station when heard the train pulling in, so I would have to run to catch it. On my way down to the platform, my water bottle bounced out of my bag’s side pocket. Still in a rush, I turned to pick it up and my ankle went from under me and down I went.
Summary version: bleeding from both hands, and left knee ( courtesy of the now-ripped jeans), plus headache from whe I whacked my skull on the handrail as I pulled myself up. Plus I still missed the train and don’t have time to go home to change.
On the plus side, my weekend can really only get better at this point.
Oh dear! What a terrible way to start the day. Hope things improve for you! On the upside it is Friday … [Splugs]
See, it’s contagious.
If it makes you feel any better, I once performed a far sillier and far more spectacular and far bloodier stuff-up while trying to board a train. If it weren’t for the fact they didn’t have CCTV at the station in those days I would suspect that I was the reason they introduced automatic doors.
Ouchies! Very crap way to start the day. Hope you recover ok on the weekend. *splugs*
FYI for the Olympic game competitors – I am posting running updates on that thread
http://www.splaton.com/blog/2012/07/24/the-armchair-olympic-selector-game/
In the Wii Olympics events being run at work, I have 2 gold medals and another member of my team has a third – so our team has a strong lead.
Haven’t made plans for the weekend. I am thinking of going shopping for a couple of computery bits.
Ghryswald’s gang are looking hard to catch.
There’s still a week to go, and there have been some major upsets this year. And not just injuries… badminton anyone?
Nearly a week into my holiday and I’m only just starting to feel better. First day I’ve woken up without a blinding headache so definitely on the mend.
It could have been worse. I’ve been convalescing by sitting around watching the Olympics and while I think the coverage is a tad ordinary, a quick look at the TV guide usually convinces me not to swap channels. If I was feeling better I’d simply have gotten up and done something else.
Anyway, I think I can sit through a movie now without coughing so much I drive the rest of the audience out, so it’s off to see Batman tomorrow (Mrs H is babysitting today) and then The Bourne Legacy after that.
D1 has ordered me an e-reader for my birthday (which isn’t until November) and it should arrive next week. I’m sure I can convince her that a man on holidays needs his e-reader now, not in November.
AS mentioned, I’ve been watching a bit of the Olympics. As we don’t have cable I’ve been forced to endure the Channel 9 coverage. Firstly, this means you get to see hardly anything that doesn’t have Australia in it.
Secondly, some of the commentary is appallingly bad. The rowing especially springs to mind. Time and again the commentators are coming out with “Australia need to go now” or “Australia are well-positioned here” when it has been patently obvious for some seconds that they were dropping back and out of it. Patriotism and jingoism is all very well in small doses but a bit of reality wouldn’t go astray. I’m not knocking the achievements of those teams, they worked bloody hard in top-class fields and you can’t win them all. I just wish the commentary would match the vision. It’s like watching Rugby League with Rabbits calling it.
I think Channel 9 & Foxtel are sharing commentators for the rowing (James Tomkins & James Brayshaw), but yes, I kind of agree with you there. However, the camera angles are rather deceiving and they may be getting the same view that we viewers are, so that might be why they’re saying what they’re saying. Either that or they are just crap commentators. *shrugs* Admittedly I’ve been watching more of the swimming than anything else, where Ray Hadley is driving me insane by mumbling waaaaaaaaay too much. Susie O’Neill is a bit uncomfortable with him and Rebecca Wilson around methinks.
I’ve been somewhat absent this week due to going to Brisbane on one day’s notice and it looks like I’ll be just as absent next week, but I try to read what I can when I have a chance.
Either some clown on the plane or one of those dastardly banana benders gave me some sort or lurgy which promises to keep my weekend low-key, although my elder niece has her 4th birthday party on Sunday which should be great fun.
I’m back in Brisvegas Mon-Wed so if any Brisvegans are around I’d love to catch up one night so I don’t have to sit in an eatery by myself with a big ‘L’ on my forehead. I’m also going to try and catch up with my half brother the other night which will be great.
Have a good weekend all.
Hi, I could do something Monday night or Wednesday night ((Tuesdays are out for me …) if we can organise a splat-up of some description
Hope you feel better soon.
I can’t really do evenings these days. Have to go to bed early as I work so early. But Ghryswald might want to go.
I’m definitely up for something.
Stop the world for a sec. My boss just tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was ok to postpone the trip next week until the week after.
At this point I don’t know specifics (this news being hot off the press) but I will splash all over here any details when I know them.
Work trip hey? Dinner for 1, wine for 2!
The combination of the flu and life insurance ads on television have convinced me I will die soon… I am newly addicted to TMZ the show, to the point that I had withdrawals yesterday upon my return to work and stayed up till midnight to make sure I still got to see it. Its fun making fun of people who are *way* prettier than I am. I got my new computer and broke it already. My phone decides when it wants to work – which is most the time never. I hate technology. Cant wait for study to start – may wet pants in anticipation. Want to quit my job – its making me depressed – it may also be TMZ withdrawals again – I can no longer tell. But seriously – I want to work in retail or some such shit where I don’t have to deal with morons and their stupidity on a frequent basis. Scenario:
Person 1: Could you please un-laminate this and then re-laminate it?
Me: sorry, it will ruin the fibres – It will get destroyed.
Person 1: Find a way to make it work.
Me: Look, I want to help you – but it will literally destroy the document – i’ve tried before.
Person 1: FIND A WAY.
Me: Okay *goes and stands outside for 30 minutes. comes back inside and hands P1 the document completely unchanged*)
Person: See, that wasn’t all that hard, was it?
Me: Nope. Not at all.
*sigh*
TMZ!
Sorry you’re having a bit of a rough trot Miss Poppit. Have a look at this. As you’re such a fan of the royals it might cheer you up and I must say, I love the photo of them hugging. So natural and happy.

BAHAHAHAAA!
Oh sorry. Retail’s cup also runneth over when it comes to morons and their stupidity, at least in the places I’ve done time (Both customers and coworkers). One of the reasons I don’t work in retail is because I have worked in retail. Same goes for hospitality.
“But seriously – I want to work in retail or some such shit where I don’t have to deal with morons and their stupidity on a frequent basis.”
Hahahaha. Retail being moron-free? In what universe?
Not even in one universe in the infinity of the Multiverse do I believe such a reality exists.
Less morons and I like those morons… Dont ask me why!
The week that was, was messy. The jobs on my to-do pile are mostly still there, I feel like I’ve been putting out fires all week. Going to have to improve the time management, methinks. Had yesterday off sick, and cuddled up with Mr R who had yesterday & today off as time in lieu. Was a nice day, despite the thumping head, to just be together and potter around. Could easily imagine what life might be like if we won Tattslotto and retired. Was mighty disappointed that someone won $50m last night and it wasn’t me…!
This weekend will be (finally!) getting the kitchen ready for the benchtop, and starting to put stuff in the new dining room cupboards, so that I can get rid of boxes and start organising other cupboards with a little extra space. Other than that, possibly a dinner with the outlaws as compensation for doing their taxes that night. At least it is easy now, I’ve done my job in simplifying their affairs so well I’m really not needed anymore, only really for reassurance more than anything else.
Last day at work today, less than a week till I fly out. Just about every second this weekend is booked in with WA friends.
It’s a bittersweet moment/ time.
xxx
Not much has happened this week. I’m currently in the grip of Olympics fever. Although I’m not staying up late/getting up early for anything, I turn over & briefly wake up at some ungodly hour for some reason. The Olympics always brings back memories of 2000, even though I didn’t get to go to any of the events.
(Still got to see the torch run though, that was cool.)
Got no idea what I’ll be doing this weekend. Hope you all have a good one.
Work has been absolute crap, home has been crap, too. Not a happy wee Bunny at the moment.
Having said that, we are off to the peninsula this weekend with our lovely neighbours which will be fab! Hope everyone has a happy, healthy and safe week!
xxxx
A Tad OT.
It would seem the Olympics have fundamentally shifted in the area of medal count, although the yanks are still doing Ok-ish. I think when you dominate the pool, there are loads more opportunities to win medals, hence, our less than anticipated performance.
I mean, when you think about it, good swimmers can really collect a lot of medals. On the other hand, those involved in team competitions go through so much and can have so many wins but in the end, there is only one gold.
We need to not so much lower our expectations but stop putting ridiculously enormous pressure on our athletes to be the best in the world. 5ths, 4th’s and 3rd’s in the world are fantastic results and I am rather ashamed at the media and of the disappointment of the public for our performances.
Sorry Ghrys – it’s tough to be torn between two lovers but at least it gives you lots more scope to have a good cheer.
What I have loved about the olympics is watching people so happy when they do something they have always dreamed about. The triumph of those people who have worked so hard and achieved a goal.
I don’t remember which games or what country she came from but I will always remember that woman who could barely stand finishing the marathon. She came last but she got such a cheering and that is what it is all about.
You guys have a fantastic weekend.
Cazzy xxxxx
PS. might watch some sport over the weekend.
Yep!
I totally agree re: our expectations and the pressure on the athletes …
