And that was the weekend that was. Christmas has come and gone again and now we can once more tell people that “Christmas is coming too” in reference to it being a long way away in the hope that they’ll pull their finger out and do what you asked them to.
I suspect it may be a quiet day today of nursing hangovers, taking stock of leftovers and gifts and reminiscing on whatever it is that December 25th means to you, so for those of you hereabouts, jump on in and share your Christmas experience on today’s MOAR Celebrations!
Was the day what you wanted it to be? Was Santa kind? Is Christmas day to you a day of celebrations (Religious or otherwise), excess, charity, a chance to put your feet up or something else?
I can’t really sum up my day yet because as I write this Christmas is still a tantalising few days away and as you read this I’m probably trying to sleep despite licky dogs and a short person trying to insert her newest toy in my ear. So I leave you instead with one of the more interesting Christmas wishes I came across this year:
Whatever Christmas means to all you Splatters, I hope it was everything you wanted it to be.
Merry Christmas!
Plucker

Well howdy all.Christmas has come and gone, and ewcept for the kids, to me, it was just another day. It seemed to be an extremly quiet, in fact boring, day. Lil Harry’s 1st Xmas was tiring for him, and for #2, i think it was a bit of an anti climax. Happt Mum was exited, but by the time it arrived, i was a whole lotta “Bah Humbug”!
Sorry for not having anything exciting to tell, but i was soooo bored with it all, that i didn’t even open presents, except for the rather large bottle of whiskey, that i have managed to consume at least half.
Hope you other Splatters had a much more fulfilling day than I.
All the best to you all, and hope that most have a few days off, to re-charge, and prepare for the New Years toil. Cheers
Merry Christmas!
Plucker, as we were driving to my brother’s house yesterday morning we saw a wild pheasant on the road. It flew away and of course I thought of you! It was the first time I’d ever seen one
Christmas is in Kingaroy this year and it has been so wonderful and relaxing. The lunch I grew up eating, and Grandma’s apricot balls for dessert. Just great. We’re off home again this afternoon and then seeing Mum tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a fabulous time
A reasonably quiet family get together. All the grand-kids were really happy with their presents so we did well this year. Al gone by 4.00pm so we had a nap that turned into a sleep (we were up very late Xmas eve delivering and wrapping things and cooking in Mrs H’s case). Got up for a while and decided some fresh fruit salad would do for dinner and possibly undo some of the damage wreaked by lunch.
Watching the cricket now and it was going really well until the rain-break. Oh well.
Christmas Day in the House of Tack was getting up at 4am to watch the New England Patriots beat the Miami Dolphins, then present opening, then out to a fabulous lunch with Laughing Owl. Ghryswald then disappeared to partake of that favourite Australian Christmas Day pastime, the Post-Prandial Coma, and I watched ‘The King’s Speech’ on Foxtel (Colin Firth, seriously amazing). We watched half of last year’s Dr Who Christmas Special on TV before I collapsed and went to bed. It was a lovely day.
Today we’re watching the cricket and the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race before dinner out this evening and then Tin Tin! So excited
.
Like Pokelyn said, but with the occasional “Can they do *this* and *that* question about Cricket.
What? It’s fun to watch!
Preparations on Christmas Eve took longer than anticipated, so we called it quits just after midnight, although it was more like 1am by the time I actually made it to bed, only for the alarm to jolt me awake at 7am. We quickly got into action, making a steamed pudding, preparing fruit for Pavlova topping and a fruit platter, then boxing it all up to transport to Mr R’s brother’s house for lunch. Which was good, but noisy with the kids. We escaped to Marysville for dinner with mum and peace and quiet, although the storms were definitely not quiet, they were spectacular to watch. Just as well, as with the power off, there was nothing else to do!
Today is quiet, leftovers, and maybe going for a drive this afternoon.
Faintly bemused to discover that despite gorging myself on both Christmas Eve *and* Christmas Day, I seem to have lost weight. Watch me strenuously not complain!
We had a lovely time with both sides of my family, and D’s mum and her partner should be in Brisbane toward the end of February, so hopefully we’ll have fun with them, too (although I suspect D is glad of the break to avoid social overkill).
Spending Boxing Day lazing around in the air conditioning and refusing to dress further than my underwear, which is, IMO, how it is meant to be spent.
Hope everyone else had a spectacular holiday weekend. <3
I just love Boxing Day. All the fussing is over and there is always a fridge full of left-overs and the cricket to watch.
We had a perfect day yesterday. My sister arrived at 1pm from Melbourne and we had “lunch” at about 4pm. After a big feed, we had parcels and more champagne.
It was just the three of us and the dogs, of course, so it was nice and relaxing after I finally got the meal on the table.
My sister did the cleaning up which was fantastic. So a good time was had by all at my place.
Hope the rest of you had a nice celebration too.
Had a lovely chilled out Christmas day. My brother took over my duties in the kitchen as I am unable to do very much. Boxing day was equally relaxing – lots of reading cricket watching and resting : ) My knee is healing up well (I think), I was surprised to realise yesterday was a week since I had surgery. I am much more mobile than I expected but still quite limited un what I can do …
Have a great week all
xx
A late one from moi.
Christmas Day was good. Went up the coast to my aunts’ place first for lunch, which they provided. As usual, they had the TV on when we went there – nothing’s changed! Nearly fell asleep on one of their couches, but Round 2 at my grandfather’s was approaching, so I decided not to.
Round 2 at aforementioned grandfather’s was also good. Everyone except me feasted on oysters (my grandfather had bought 10 dozen [!!] from a local oyster seller, despite not knowing that my dad, brother and I don’t eat them…although brother did eat a dozen on his own in the end) and cooked prawns first, before a roast pork dinner. Unfortunately the gravy was burnt, but we still ate up. Ended up going over to a neighbour of his across the road for a little bit & sat out on their back verandah chatting & drinking (well, everyone else did, I didn’t), which was nice. Granddad’s got some good friends where he lives & they all look out for him, which is great.
Boxing Day was spent on the couch watching cricket & in my bed having an afternoon nap. Felt like a zombie yesterday. I swear I’m getting old, I haven’t got half the stamina that I used to!
Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and that you all have a good week too.
Merry after Xmas, Splatmates!!
Xmas eve the cherubs and I had lunch with the gorgeous becann. So good to finally meet her!
Later that arvo the kids went to their dads and my darling bloke cane over and I baked and we had our first Xmas morning together, kid free. It was really magical. Interspersed with moments of hilarity from the baby fur kid. He managed a crap in front of the tree just as I was opening my ‘special save to last’ present. Then when he got into trouble for biting he went and peed on the santa stockings! Canine version of a social finger, I’d wager.
I’m sporting a beautiful silver heart on a chain from my love. Lucky girl I am.
My kids came back late Xmas day and the loungeroom again became Xmas mayhem. Spoke to my big girl on the phone, who is at her bfs family at Mt ISA.
Boxing day we picked up bloke’s kids and headed to his sisters. Food a plenty. Made a batch of ginger bread men and got the kids to decorate them. Fun to watch. I asked blokes kids to make me some village people ones. Still holding out for a true Leatherman in gingerbread…
Staying at blokes ATM. He spoils me. Much of this last year was really shit for so many, but I’m lucky it brought me my Mr.
Hope you are all well and stoopid happy too xxx
Christmas was excellent, I must have been a very good girl this year
We had Xmas eve dinner with my family, then lunch with Mr Dix’s family on Xmas day including girlfriends, step kids and a random friend that had no family in town. Sounds crazy but it worked, we had the biggest turkey in history and I had a 4 hour nap after everyone left – win!
The pups were very pleased with their stocking from Santa Paws, although the fat one is now sooking it as I’m rationing out his treats rather than letting him have them all at once. Apparently this is unacceptable!
